CSV Format Quick Reference

Basic Format

Each line should contain three values separated by commas:

Source, Target, Value

Example

Revenue, Expenses, 500
Revenue, Savings, 300
Expenses, Rent, 200
Expenses, Food, 150
Expenses, Transport, 150

Tips

Values must be positive numbers
Node names are case-sensitive
Spaces around commas are automatically trimmed
Empty lines are ignored

Q: What is a Sankey diagram?

A: A Sankey diagram is a flow diagram where the width of the arrows or links is proportional to the flow quantity. They are commonly used to visualize energy transfers, budget allocations, website traffic flows, and more.

Q: My diagram isn't rendering. What's wrong?

A: Check for common issues:

Ensure each line has exactly three values: Source, Target, Value
Values must be positive numbers (not zero or negative)
Make sure there are no circular references (e.g., A flows to B and B flows back to A)

Q: Can I change the colors of the diagram?

A: Yes! The App provides multiple color schemes to choose from. Select your preferred scheme before adding the diagram to your design.

Q: Can I show or hide the value labels?

A: Yes! Use the diagram options to toggle value labels on or off, adjust link opacity, and set the background style.

Q: The "Add to Design" button is disabled. Why?

A: The button may be disabled if the current Canva page type does not support adding elements. Try switching to a standard design page.

Q: Can I edit the diagram after adding it to my design?

A: The diagram is added as an image. To make changes, update your CSV data and color scheme in the App, then add the updated diagram to your design.
