Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does Color Splash work?
A: Color Splash automatically detects the main subject in your image, keeps it in full color, and converts the background to grayscale, creating a dramatic selective color effect.
Q: Do I need to describe the subject?
A: No, the subject prompt is optional. If left blank, the app will auto-detect the main subject. However, providing a description (e.g. "the dog", "the red car") can help improve accuracy for complex images.
Q: Why is the subject not detected correctly?
A: The app works best with people, animals, and prominent objects. For complex scenes or subjects that blend with the background, try adding a descriptive prompt to guide the detection.
Q: How long does processing take?
A: Processing typically takes a few seconds depending on the image size and server load. A progress indicator will be shown while processing is underway.
Q: Can I undo the effect?
A: Yes! Use Canva's undo feature (Ctrl+Z on Windows or Cmd+Z on Mac) to revert changes. The original image is not modified until you add the processed result to your design.
Q: Why do I see an error when processing?
A: This can happen if the processing server is temporarily unavailable or if the image format is not supported. Try again after a few moments, or try a different image.
Q: What image types are supported?
A: Color Splash works with standard image formats available in Canva (JPEG, PNG, etc.). It does not work with vector graphics or embedded elements.
Q: Is my image data stored?
A: No. Images are processed temporarily and immediately discarded after the color splash effect is applied. No images or prompts are stored on our servers.
