Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is an Aztec code?
A: Aztec codes are 2D matrix codes commonly used for boarding passes, transit tickets, and inventory tracking. They feature a distinctive bullseye pattern at the center and don't require a surrounding quiet zone.
Q: How do I scan an Aztec code?
A: Most Android cameras and Google Lens can scan Aztec codes directly. On iPhone, you may need a dedicated scanner app such as Scandit Barcode Scanner or NeoReader, as the default Camera app only supports QR codes.
Q: How do I generate multiple codes at once?
A: Enter one value per line in the data field. The app will automatically detect bulk input and generate one Aztec code per line, up to a maximum of 12 codes at a time.
Q: What's the difference between full-range and compact format?
A: Full-range supports any data length and is the standard choice for most uses. Compact produces a smaller code but only works for short data (up to approximately 40 characters).
Q: What error correction level should I use?
A: 23% is recommended for most uses. Higher values (50%, 75%) make the code more resilient to damage but produce a larger code. Lower values (5%, 10%) create smaller codes but are less tolerant of damage.
Q: Why does my code show a contrast warning?
A: Aztec codes need high contrast between the foreground and background to scan reliably. If you see a warning, try using darker foreground colors or lighter backgrounds.
Q: Can I undo after adding a code to my design?
A: Yes! Use Canva's undo feature (Ctrl+Z on Windows or Cmd+Z on Mac) immediately after inserting a code to remove it.
Q: Does the app remember my settings?
A: The app remembers your layout preference (grid vs. one code per page) between sessions. Other settings reset when you reopen the app.
